Close Protection Officer: Level 3

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) Has Set the Guidelines and Standards intended for official Close Protection Training in the UK.
In March 2006 it became the law that you must have a license to work in Close Protection operations. For you to obtain a license you must complete and pass a course that is compliant with the specifications as laid down by the SIA.


The course covers both theoretical and practical exercises and covers the 3 elements of planning, briefing and execution including a one day introduction to Etiquette. The Examination Body for this Programme is HABC. This qualification will allow you to apply for your SIA license in Close Protection which will enable you to work anywhere in the world within the Close Protection Industry. This course is taught by fully trained and experienced Close Protection Officers within the industry, and willing to aid you to progress into the Close Protection field.

Our Course
The course is 14 days in duration and is a combination of classroom and practical exercises. It is a rigorous course and all sections of the course must be completed to permit you to be valid for your Sia license.

If you pass the course you will obtain a Certificate in Protective Security from our awarding body HABC this accompanied with a First Aid at Work Qualification will allow you to apply to the Security Industry Authority for a Front Line Close Protection License and employment.


To secure your place on a course you will need to pay the deposit value of (£350) or full payment in advance.
The SIA (Security Industry Authority) is a UK Government body that was started in 2004 to oversee the security industry. The SIA have two main purposes, one of which is to licence security officers. This is done by sector and being a Close Protection Officer is subject to this requirement.

To gain a licence to work in Close Protection you are required to complete 14 day Close Protection Course and hold a First Aid At Work qualification. At the end of the course you will have to take and pass an exam in order to apply for your Close Protection Licence. Subject to your application being approved, you will then get you SIA Close Protection Licence. Close Protection courses are a minimum of 150 hours and cover core competencies as set out by the SIA

•   One Day Advanced Close Protection Driver Training
•   Close Quarter Combat, Control and Restraint and Weapons Disarming Training
•   Vehicle Ambush Drills & Driving Skills
•   Two Days European Close Protection Training including Firearms (optional at extra cost)

The course is open to civilians as no prior knowledge is necessary, only the interest to learn and strength of mind to carry it through is necessary. Due to the high standards that can be achieved on this course, all students who pass the SIA examination, regardless of background, will be able to seek employment within the industry. This can range from low level threat work to high risk work in areas of conflict.

Our HABC CP Training course has carefully been combined with the skills learnt from Police, Military Close Protection and the industry today to give you one of the most in depth and comprehensive courses on the market.
